Point Scoring Partnerships – Pieres Power

May 6, 2017 | FP Strategist

With the Queen’s Cup coming up fast we take a look at some of those power combos which are sure to be earning you big points when the first of the UK high goal tournaments gets underway. Although Fantasy points are earned on an individual basis, players often shine best when paired with another player who helps them to increase their point scoring opportunities.

Today we focus on the power pair that is the Pieres brothers. Gonzalo and Facundo Pieres are well known for their sibling symbiosis and their brotherly connection that allows them to dominate the field and create power polo plays left, right and centre.

In last year’s Queen’s Cup it was Gonzalo who came out as the FP number 1 with a huge 189.75 points despite playing 1 match fewer than the finalists (Dubai and La Indiana) and the sub finalists (Sifani and HB). Having had a somewhat lacklustre US season in terms of Fantasy points (he scored just 74.5 points throughout the US Open), it is clear that Gonzalo thrives in his position of complimenting forward running Facundo, rather than the more defensive brother Nico with whom he played in the US. Having a teammate to compliment him means Gonzalo comes in to his own as a fantasy contender rather than taking a slightly back seat to his more attacking brother.

With the handicap structure of King Power, this partnership will be key to their success and although all eyes are normally on superstar Facundo, we look to his brother Gonzalo to be raking in the points.
